GivingTuesday 2025 Highlights and Record-Breaking Donations

This year, nonprofits and donors came together for a historic GivingTuesday 2025. Over $4 billion was donated in the United States alone, with over 38 million people participating in GivingTuesday through donations, acts of kindness, and volunteering. On Mightycause, nonprofits raised over $30 million, with $20,000 in prizes disbursed to organizations making a difference.

Across the country, nonprofits harnessed the power of their communities and turned GivingTuesday into a meaningful day of impact.

What We Heard from Nonprofits This Year

We asked organizations on our platform to share their GivingTuesday experiences. Here’s what stood out:

1. Matching grants motivated donors.

One of the most consistent motivators and success drivers nonprofits mentioned was matching gifts. From first-time users to long-time participants, matching grants stood out as one of the most impactful tools of the day. Whether large or small, matches helped fuel urgency, increase average donation size, and inspire donors to give sooner and more generously.

“We set an audacious goal this year, and several individuals stepped up with quite significant matches. I think having the matches really helped motivate donors.”

“Our organization raised the most funds for GivingTuesday in our history. We used the matching grant feature for the first time and believe it helped fuel more donations.”

2. Storytelling and transparency sparked action.

Nonprofits shared how honest, mission-driven storytelling (especially when paired with visuals or real stories) prompted supporters to give and share. The most successful campaigns shared compelling stories about the people and communities they serve, making the impact tangible and real. As well, when nonprofits openly shared the obstacles they were facing, donors responded with empathy and action. Being vulnerable about real needs, whether funding cuts, operational challenges, or community concerns, gave supporters a clear understanding of why their contribution mattered right now.

“We posted a story explaining the funding we had recently lost due to state cuts, and families who hadn’t known about the cuts reached out, donated, and shared.”

3. Engagement often spiked at the last minute.

A recurring surprise for many nonprofits was how GivingTuesday momentum built late in the day, even when early hours felt slow. Power Hours, deadline urgency, and last-minute reminders played a critical role in turning hesitation into action.

“Our early fundraising efforts seemed sluggish… however, we ended up raising more money than last year. A lot of people must have just been waiting to donate until Tuesday.”

“During the final hours, donations were pouring in so fast that I had to keep updating my donor messages in real time.”

Looking Ahead

From first-time campaigns to record-breaking fundraisers, GivingTuesday 2025 proved what happens when nonprofits leverage the right tools with the right message. Organizations on Mightycause used matching grant features, Power Hours, and personalized outreach to turn passion into action and connect with supporters in meaningful ways.

To every nonprofit that participated, shared their story, or took their first step: thank you. We’re honored to support your work and can’t wait to see how you build on this momentum in the year ahead.
