Richland Gives is a community giving day that brings together nonprofits serving Richland County, Ohio. Started by the Richland County Foundation in 2015, the event unites nonprofits on #GivingTuesday each year, helping them collectively build momentum and join the #GivingTuesday conversation in a unique way.

And Richland Gives perfectly encapsulates the “small but mighty” ethos Mightycause was founded on. Each year, their event has seen growth, and raised more and more for nonprofits in Richland County.

More Than $300,000 Raised

Richland Gives raised a grand total of $309,503 in 2018.

Richland Gives ensures the nonprofits who register to participate plenty of time to build momentum by opening up “early donations” on November 1st. By the end of their event, the 88 participating nonprofits managed to bring together 861 donors for Richland Gives.

Record Growth

Richland Gives is a smaller, localized giving event, but they could teach some of the bigger statewide events a thing or two about growth. Each year, Richland Gives has grown, engaging more nonprofits and bringing in more donations. This year, they shattered all previous fundraising totals — they went from bringing in $190,000 in 2017 to nearly $310,000 in 2018, exceeding last year’s number by more than $100,000.

How to they do this? They focus on growth. Richland Gives provide a unique prize to the first five nonprofits who increase the amount they raise online by 30%, which encourages nonprofits to work hard to imrpove their fundraising game and raise more. The added gamification that gets nonprofits pumped to grow while competing to get to the 30% milestone first!

Keeping It Lively

Richland Gives is an online event. But each year, they also host live events to help build excitement (and give nonprofits valuable opportunities to network, mingle with community members and win prizes.)

In 2018, Richland Gives was at Ohio State University’s nonprofit showcase. Several prizes were available to nonprofits who attended the showcase.

The Richland County Foundation also hosted a leaderboard watch party. Raffle tickets were given out to attendees, where they listed their favorite nonprofit. The Foundation drew three winners. The winning nonprofits won $500 for their cause.

To make sure everyone at these live events had an easy way to support their favorite nonprofits, the Richland County Foundation made sure to have giving stations where community members could easily donate on Mightycause.

By getting out into the community and bringing the Richland Gives excitement offline, the Richland County Foundation has been able to make this event a big part of their community and make lasting connections with nonprofits.
